
Tenor Matthew Smith studied his Master in Music Degree at the University of Wisconsin.
With the University he sang at Carnegie Hall and also with the mid-west Present
Music and Skylight Opera companies. On return to his native England, Matthew
first found professional success in musical theatre, featuring in Tess, at
London's West End Savoy Theatre, followed by a UK tour of Lloyd Webber's
Phantom of the Opera.
Since 2001 Matthew changed direction, at first singing as a Tenor at Hampton
Court Palace. Singing Light Opera and Nanki Poo in a USA tour of the Mikado,
followed by principal Roles and solo's in UK companies such as Grange Park,
London City Opera, Carl Rosa, Surrey Opera, New London Players, Opera West
and Thursford, Matthew has sung in the USA, Europe and Middle East since
2002. Since joining the Groot Omroepkoor in 2006, Matthew now lives in Amsterdam
and sings also freelance in Holland. Additionally, Matthew has also sung
with vocal companies in Holland such as Capella Amsterdam and Ensemble Lyric.
This autumn he sings Puccini's Messi Di Gloria Tenor solo with The North
Holland Symphony Orchestra in Leeuwarden.
